RISING by Will Wallner & Vivien Vain
(Metal Mind Productions)

'Rising' the stunning debut release from L.A. based guitarist, Will Wallner and singer Vivien Vain delivers a powerful sound that is full of passion and power that will have your undivided attention once you press play. From the very start of, "The Dream" that explodes into, "Dreamstalker" one gets the sense that Wallner and Vain are very intent on laying down the gauntlet and just kicking everyone's butt! "Streets Of Rage" is fueled with intensity and fire and from here on this lethal tag team just cranks it all the way up to 11 and takes the listener to a place where few bands are capable of going. "Fourteen Twenty Eight" is a song that pulls you in and won't let go with Wallner' s hypnotic guitar work and Vivien Vain' s sultry vocals is the kick that truly turns this song into a Rock/Metal anthem.  A total of nine songs all originals written and produced by Wallner/Vain. Every nuance of this album is mind blowing! The melodies and choruses drive each song making sure your listening experience is a memorable one. Wallner/Vain have recruited an "A-List" of musicians to help out. Contributions from Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Ted Nuggent), Vinny Appice (Dio, Black Sabbath, Heaven&Hell), Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Billy Idol, Ozzy Osbourne), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake), Tony Franklin (Roy Harper, Jimmy Page, Tony MacAlpine), Jimmy Bain (Rainbow, Dio), Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Black Country Communion, Alice Cooper, Kiss) and Tony Carey (Rainbow).  What Wallner/Vain have unleashed here with, 'Rising' is a powerhouse of a recording that should be heard and experienced by every rock music enthusiast on the planet.  A new band that doesn't merely claim to rock, Will Wallner & Vivien Vain actually deliver the goods! - Highly Recommended

TOMOCYCLUS by Sparklands
(Avenue Of Allies)

'Tomocyclus' the debut release from Sparklands is a gem of a release that melodic rock fans are sure to welcome and love.Sparklands is the long-awaited solo project by Thomas and Robert Riekerk. Completing the band are Rolf Perdok (guitars), Rob Vermeulen (bass) and Colin Lee Vermeulen (drums). 'Tomocyclus' is very reminiscent of Toto's "Farenheit" and "Seventh One" with the heavy production and big choruses. If you like high powered melodic rock then you will love this album. The songs are amazingly catchy hooks and astounding vocal melodies in each and every segment of each and every one of them. Highlights include, the AOR gem, "The Game" that opens the album. Then there are "Skyline", "Oasis", the Poco vibe of ,"Shattered Dreams" and " Let Sparks Fly". Sparkland have that polished, radio-friendly melodic rock sound down perfectly, and they match it with a modern production and a sense of melody. Impeccable melodies, combined with rock solid musicianship and Thomas Riekerk's rich, warm vocals make for a fantastic AOR experience. Rarely does a new band so completely capture the old school AOR sound like Sparkland. 'Tomocyclus' is a must-have for fans of modern AOR bands like Work Of Art, Street Talk, Shadowman and Khymera as well as the old school Toto, FM and Steve Perry solo sound. Sparklands have created a formula that works and have given new life to the melodic rock scene. I hope this album gets a lot of attention and airplay, and also hope it can also make it in the crossover radio market. This band is that good. - Highly Recommended

IF NOT FOR THE DEVIL by Fate
(Avenue Of Allies Music)

The legendary Danish Melodic Hard Rockers FATE are back with their brand new album, “If Not For The Devil”. One of their strongest albums definitely. Dagfinn Joensen on lead vocals, Torben Enevoldsen on guitar, Mikkel Henderson on keyboards, Peter Steincke on bass and Jens Berglid on drums.  Once again Jacob Hansen (Pretty Maids, Volbeat, Amaranthe) did a killer job, mixing and mastering the songs. It is admirable to witness a band attempting to grow artistically, even more so when that band has been around for over 25 years at which point one would logically think that Fate have nothing to prove. Instead the band push their artistic boundaries once again, not so much in an attempt to invent a new sound, yet trying to put together the thickest, heaviest, angriest and, at the same time, most infectious album in their career. The tracks on “If Not For the Devil” once again originate from collaborative song writing efforts of all band members and they successfully combine the melodic and catchy elements from the AOR and Melodic Rock days of FATE with the more powerful and energetic Hard Rock and Melodic Metal side of the band. From the hard rock album opener, "Reaping", the fiery title track, the dramatic "Bridges Are Burning"or the passionate "Hard To Say Goodbye". 'If Not For The Devil' is definitely one of Fate's finest works.  With “If Not For the Devil” FATE write the next chapter in the history of a long-standing Scandinavian Rock institution and it looks like a very promising future ahead of them.  You see, apart from being a very dynamic, intense and catchy album, it also sounds very spontaneous in its conception, a fact that may be considered crucial in the long run, as it is this characteristic that will draw you to the album time and time again. A totally indicative work from a hard rock/metal band that continues to grow. - Highly Recommended

WOLF PACK by Roadfever
(Avenue Of Allies Music)

Swiss rockers Roadfever are back with their sophomore release, 'Wolf Pack'. Delivering a powerful Classic Hard Rock sound loaded with great melodies, served with a healthy dose of Southern Rock. Roadfever is made up of, Stevie "Manou" Pike (vocals), David Pariat (guitar, vocals), Jessie Be (bass) and Pascal Bavaud (drums). What drew my attention to the aside from their music, was who they've shared festival stages with, Blackfoot, Scorpions, Uli John Roth, Pretty Maids, Rhino Bucket and  Little Caesar to name a few. There’s a certain charm about Roadfever’s take on Southern flavored Classic Rock.  It’s a stripped back sound that is both simple and effective and solidly at home in the eighties when pleasures were much simpler. Aside from some great guitars and a solid rhythm section Roadfever also benefits from a great female lead vocalist – Stevie ‘Manou’ Pike. Album highlights include, "Warning Shot", "Drain Your Mind", the southern rock flavored numbers "Brother", "Red Horse" and "Black Moon Breeze". Matt Sinner (Sinner/Primal Fear) makes cameo with a duet on, "Magic Sun". Roadfever may be  influenced by others in the rock world, but bring their own flare and musical stylings. Their debut album, 'Wheels Of Fire' was awesome, but with, 'Wolf Pack',  the band take their sound to the next level. It is equally great (if not slightly better?) and I would recommend it to anyone who loves rock music. A solid sophomore effort. Good job guys! - Highly Recommended

EXHALE by Stardog Champion
(Stardog Champion)

Pennsylvania's Stardog Champion burst on the scene with their five song Ep, 'Exhale'. A rock trio fronted by singer Nick Coyle (originally from Lifer and Drama Club), and guitarist Aaron Fink, and drummer Josh Karis originally from Leroy Justice. It's good to hear a band that doesn't mind rocking without pandering. Too much of the teen-pop that gluts the airwaves these days is derivative sugar. Stardog Champion have a gut level approach to their sound. There is not one bad thing I can say about this recording. 'Exhale' showcases a band that have great chemistry that is felt through their music. Their melodies are catchy; the songs move along at the perfect head-bobbing tempo. Lyrically they're not Shakespeare, but they're intelligent and sometimes clever. As evident on songs like, "Aphrodite", "Nothing To Lose" and the closing track, "The Switch". Stardog Champion requires you to listen with an open mind. Each song has a different sound. Sure it's just an Ep, but it's good. From my perspective this is a solid effort. I enjoyed it very much and am very curious to see what Stardog Champion come up with next. Definitely a band worth checking out. - Recommended Listen

TOUCH OF SIN 2 by Sinner
(AFM Records)

Mat Sinner (Primal Fear, Voodoo Circle, Goddess Shiva) has established himself as one of the hardest working, most reliable, consistent and indestructible sources of Hard Rock/Heavy metal Germany has to offer. His latest release, 'Touch Of Sin 2' finds
him re-introducing a Sinner classic featuring re-recorded amped up versions of "Born To Rock", "Bad Girl" and "Knife In My Heart" which was the lead off single off the "Dangerous Charm" album ( a mistake of the record company that it appears on the first re-release of the Touch Of Sin album!). As well as classic Sinner tracks from the band's early years like, "Concrete Jungle" and "Danger Zone". Mat also serves up 3 new tracks, “Blood On The Sand”, “Heat Of The City” and a interesting take on the Thin Lizzy classic, “Don’t Believe A Word”. The band backing Mat up are a group of talented musicians, Alex Scholpp on guitars, Alex Beyroudt, Mat' s bandmate from Voodoo Circle on guitar, Christof Leim on guitars and Andre Hilgers on drums. There are also guest appearances by David Readman (Voodoo Circle, Pink Cream 69), Erik Martensson (W.E.T.), Diego Valdez (Helker) and Tom Naumann (ex-Primal Fear). Without question, 'Touch Of Sin 2' has the "Sinner" trademark characteristics we have come to love and expect from the band. That, when it comes bringing the hard rock/heavy metal thunder, Sinner BRINGS IT! Hats off to Mat Sinner for bringing back some great songs that are truly classic! The bottom line is that if you are a Sinner fan or a fan who loves hard rock/heavy metal music, there is no doubt you will love this album. - Highly Recommended

THE WAY LIFE GOES by Tom Keifer
(Alternative Distribution Alliance)

Cinderella frontman, Tom Keifer steps out on his own to release his debut album, 'The Way Life Goes'. So the big questions was, for me anyway, was it worth it? Or should Tom have just gotten back with Cinderella? As far as it being worth it? Hell yeah! I've always considered Tom Keifer one of rock music's finest voices as well as a songwriter. So there wasn't really any doubt in me liking this album. Now about Cinderella, notice I didn't say former frontman. Who knows? I hope somewhere down the road there will be new material from Cinderella (God knows it's way over due), but for now Tom's album will hold me over till that day comes. 'The Way Life Goes', is nothing less than a great blues rock album that any fan of good music will love at first listen. From rockers like the lead off single, "Solid Ground", "Cold Day In Hell" and "Ain't That A Bitch" to the soulful feel of "A Different Light" and "The Flower Song", Tom Keifer's vocal performance is rock solid and does not miss a note. I have to say that any number of songs off this release could have appeared on a Cinderella album and at times I had to remind myself this was a Tom Keifer solo project. Overall, 'The Way Life Goes', is a spectacular album that all fans of Cinderella, or even all rock fans for that matter, will enjoy. This is pure Tom Keifer, and it is proof of why he has longevity, while others just fade away. You deserve it all Tom, thanks for not quitting on us.- Highly Recommended

AMERICAN ILLUSION by Venrez
(Monarch Music Group)

L.A. based rockers, Venrez are back with their sophomore release, 'American Illusion'. A non-stop good time rock n' roll album full of rock solid musicianship complete with tight rhythms and incredible riffs. The band is comprised of singer Steven Berez (whose last syllables of his first and last name serve as the group’s name), guitarists Jason Womack and Alex Kane, bassist Michael Bradford, and drummer Ed Davis. 'American Illusion' is on a whole different level than the band's debut release, 'Sell The Lie, which is a strong album, its just this album is far superior. The band is tighter, the band influences are more noticable and yet they sound more original and the songs are just all around better. From opening riff of, "Unforeseen" you know you are in for one hell of a ride. Then you have "Sanctity" a mighty catchy, feel-good hard rock anthem with punk-y, grungy bass lines, big, heavy riffs, and memorable, vocal hook. The tandem guitar work by Womack and Kane is tight and the rhythm section of Bradford and Davis give Venrez it's rock solid foundation. The band's tight chemistry is evident on tracks like the groove laden movers, "Free Will" and "Vultures". The band also cover the Sonny and Cher classic 'Beat Goes On' which is melt in your mouth good, infact it is too good to be true. Makes you forget that it is even a cover. All in all 'American Illusion' is a hard rock record with strong vocals, melodic rhythms and wall to wall of guitar! Clearly Venrez were not influenced by the countless Sons of Plunder label executives that roll up their sleeves and tell new modern rock bands that you need to sound like Nickleback in order to sell albums. Venrez may be the success story no one expected. If these guys keep it together for a third album, who knows what they could accomplish. All I hear and see from Venrez are better things to come. 'American Illusion' is a modern rock classic. - Highly Recommended

CONCERT FOR RONNIE MONTROSE:
A Celebration of His Life in Music

Ronnie Montrose was one of the first hard rock guitar heroes. Before he formed his own band he played guitar on sessions by people such as Van Morrison, Edgar Winter and Herbie Hancock. Critics described his band, Montrose as part Jeff Beck, part Led Zeppelin, and three-fourths nitroglycerin.  One of the things I admired about Ronnie Montrose was that he always followed his heart. Always looking for a way to take his music to the next level. In 1979 he founded his next band Gamma, a group whose three albums were ahead of their time were an explosion of guitar and synthesizer pyrotechnics anchored by a bluesy edge. Between and beyond these band forays,  Ronnie Montrose the player devoted himself to exploring instrumental guitar music on landmark albums like 'Open Fire' and 'The Speed of Sound'.

On March 3, 2012, rock music lost one of it's true legends. In the wake of Ronnie Montrose' s untimely passing an all-star group of his friends got together to put on a show that celebrated Ronnie Montrose's contributions to rock music and to honor the Father of American Hard Rock. ‘Concert for Ronnie Montrose – A Celebration of His Life In Music’ brings together Ronnie’s band mates in Montrose (Sammy Hagar, Denny Carmassi and Bill Church featuring Joe Satriani) and Gamma (Davey Pattison, Denny Carmassi and Glenn Letsch with Marc Bonilla). Together they performed a career-surveying set of classic cuts Ronnie Montrose wrote or performed with his bands, as a sideman (such as the Edgar Winter hit ‘Frankenstein’) or solo.  Additionally, Ronnie’s colleagues and people he mentored and produced over the 40 years of his career are featured as well, Neal Schon (Journey), Ricky Phillips (Styx), Steve Smith (ex-Journey), Ed Roth, Jimmy Paxson (Stevie Nicks), Jeff Watson (ex-Night Ranger), Tesla, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer (Kiss), Eric Martin (Mr. Big), and more.

Sammy Hagar, bassist Bill ‘Electric’ Church and drummer Denny Carmassi took the stage with Hagar’s Chickenfoot bandmate Joe Satriani subbing in on guitar, and delivered a powerful, well-received set that featured Montrose staples like ‘Space Station No. 5,’ ‘Bad Motor Scooter’ and of course, ‘Rock Candy.’

Sharing memories of the band’s early days and running through the group’s classic tracks with his old bandmates stirred “a lot of memories up here,” as Hagar put it from the stage. The quartet of players shared a sweaty embrace after performing ‘Connection’ by the Rolling Stones (covered on Montrose’s second album) with smiles all around. Journey guitarist Neal Schon said the sold-out Regency Center came “unglued” during the evening of music, which he opened, sharing the stage with Styx bassist and former Bad English bandmate Ricky Phillips, Montrose keyboardist Ed Roth and Schon’s former Journey bandmate Steve Smith on drums. This line-up performed two of Ronnie’s signature tracks from the 1978 ‘Open Fire’ release, including the title track.

It was an evening to celebrate the talents of one of the Bay Area’s own, rather than mourn. Tesla lead singer Jeff Keith might have summarized it best when he said “We’re here to share the love. This is the live DVD that captured that event.

PERFORMANCE: ROCKIN' THE FILMORE - COMPLETE RECORDINGS (Box Set)
by Humble Pie
(Omnivore Recordings)

If you enjoyed the original, 'Rockin' The Fillmore' then this is a no brainer, get this set now. The sound couldn't be better it just jumps out of the speakers. If your thinking all versions of the songs are the same you would be mistaken. The guitar playing of Peter Frampton is written all over these recordings and he doesn't play the same solo's that were used to from the original recordings its all fresh searing licks. By the way Steve Marriott's  guitar sounds great as well and of course his voice and all the new banter. What you get with this "Thunderbox" of a box set are all four shows that the original Humble Pie - Steve Marriott, Peter Frampton, Jerry Shirley and Greg Ridley - recorded whilst opening for Lee Michaels at the Fillmore East in New York City back in 1971.  And while Humble Pie, both with and without Frampton, made some great studio tracks, Performance: 'Rockin' the Fillmore' is unquestionably their crowning achievement. Disc one starts from Friday the 28th, and while it's a bit shaky, there's no question that the groove is already there. Across all four discs, "I'm Ready" is one of the most solidly rockin' tracks you will ever want to hear - as soon as Jerry Shirley goes into the opening drum part, you just know it's going to be good. Indeed, the first four songs of each disc are consistently the same: "Four Day Creep," "I'm Ready," "I Walk on Gilded Splinters" and a smokin' take of the Ray Charles classic, "Hallelujah (I Love Her So)". There are three recordings of "I Don't Need No Doctor" and ladies and gents, this is THE MUST HAVE recording of this song. Talk about a song that blows you away. There is a reason why many described Steve Marriott as a Black man trapped in a White man's body. Along with Marriott's soulfully powerhouse vocals the band seriously cooks! There are two different takes on Muddy Waters' classic, "Rollin' Stone," but only one version of "Stone Cold Fever," which the band had put on their second album, 1971's 'Rock On'. With any reservations, I'd recommend 'Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore' to any fan of Humble Pie or anyone who wants to hear what a great live album should and sound like. The original album was great and those of us from that era know what a great band this was with Peter Frampton and Steve Marriott as twin guitar players. I invite you to relive an amazing live recording by one of the best rock bands to ever evolve, HUMBLE PIE! It is like having a front row seat at the Fillmore. I couldn't believe how great it sounds. - Essential Listen

WE DON'T BELONG by Degreed
(Spectra Records)

The sophomore release, 'We Don't Belong' from Swedish rock band Degreed is another very good example of quality modern melodic rock that will easily please fans without breaking any new ground. The band serve up play a brand of ultra-slick melodic rock made popular in the 80's. These guys do, however, add a modern flavor to the mix to keep it from becoming stale and uninspired. Degreed are, Robin Ericsson on vocals/bass, Jesper Adefelt on guitar/vocals, Daniel Johansson on guitar/vocals, Micke Jansson on keyboards and Mats Ericsson on drums. 'We Don't Belong' is one of those albums where the band gets everything right.  A great melodic rock sound that is the perfect combination of classic `80s AOR and hard-hitting European rock. The guitar hooks are amazing, and the melodies lodge themselves in your head instantly. Robin Ericsson turns in a rock solid vocal performance. While the chemistry between the guitar tandem of Adefelt and Johansson is like white on rice. Mats Ericsson's drumming is stellar and Micke Jansson's on keyboards are tight.  Well, with a group of stellar musicians like this the band has to sound great right? The proof is in the songs, and you can pretty much pick any of the songs on 'We Don't Belong' at random and find an absolutely killer single-worthy melodic rocker. Ten tracks total. Highlights include the aggressive, "Black Cat", the massive chorus of "What If", the modern rock sound of "Inside Of Me" and the passionate title track that closes the album. If you enjoyed Degreed's debut album at all, you'll enjoy this for sure. They just don't make bands like this anymore and that makes Degreed all the more special.  If your cup of tea is melodic hard rock that runs on intensity and heritage, 'We Don't Belong' by Degreed is the ideal propostion. - Highly Recommended

THE WORLD IS YOURS by The Union
(Payolas Records)

UK rockers The Union return with their highly anticipated third release, 'The World Is Yours' and if you love what they did on their debut and sophomore release, 'Siren Song' then you are going to love what they've done here. Not to be mistaken for the American rock band that bears the same name. The Union features Thunder’s Luke Morley and Peter Shoulder of Winterville. Rounding out the band are, Chris Childs on bass guitar, Dave McCluskey on drums, Phil Martin, on drums. 'The World Is Yours' is a masterpiece full of empathy and classic references. Great riffs, powerful vocals, and catching yourself playing air guitar are good indicators of a great rock band. While the band is used to comparisons to rock icons such Free and Bad Company, The Union are focused to bring their  own signature sound to 21st century and make it as formidable as their 20th century influences. The album opens with the short acoustic , "Sawtooth Mountain Ride", that segues into blues rocker, "You're My Jesus". Kudos go to Peter Shoulders his vocals on this recording are superb. Just in time for Summer the band serve up, "Tonight I'm Alive", talk about visions of driving the Pacific Coast Highway with the top down and the smell on sunscreen fills the air. The track that blew me away is the ballad, "Fading Out Love", something about Shoulders' vocal delivery on this song had my undivided attention. The band turn it up with the albums title track. Highlighted by the groove laden Zeppelin-nish guitar delivery of Luke Morley. 15 tracks total each guaranteed to satisfy your rock and roll taste buds. I am not sure if many people in the U.S have even heard of these guys. From start to finish, The Union with this release have proven not once, not twice, but three times that they are a force to be reckoned with, a huge plus for the rock music genre. If you like 70's classic rock music with a modern touch, well written songs filled with heartfelt passion lyrics you will want to check out The Union. - Highly Recommended

SCORPION CHILD by Scorpion Child
(Nuclear Blast Records)

It is an indisputable fact that real rock music has gone by the wayside. Often we hear of a band that has brought it back, only to find out they missed the mark by a long shot. Scorpion Child has hit that mark and obliterated it with it's powerful self titled debt release. Scorpion Child's music explodes with big drums, thunderous guitar riffs and killer groove laden bass lines. If you're into that 70's classic hard rock sound that was coined by bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Uriah Heep, you will love this album. Scorpion Child serve up a hybrid of nine, hook-filled ball busting rock songs that deliver a much needed ass kicking to a stale hard rock music scene. Right off the bat, "King's Highway" sets things off in rocking fashion with it's foot stomping infectious groove. From there on the band don't take their foot off the pedal as they rip into sure fire rockers like, "The Secret Spot" and “Polygon of Eyes” as their lead single which is a ode to Dio-era Rainbow, the song is four minutes of power-heavy rock plowing through an ancient storyline of swords and mystics. The band is made up of, Aryn Jonathan Black on vocals, Shaun Avants on bass, Chris Cowart on lead guitar, Tom Frank on rhythm guitar and on drums, Shawn Alvear. These rock and roll messiahs have all the ingredients that made their predecessors huge. This album is loaded, I talking full metal jacket! Not a weak track to be found. Definitely nothing decaffeinated here. Scorpion Child are the closest thing I have to that feeling I got when I first put Led Zeppelin's IV or The Rolling Stones, 'Stick Fingers' on the record player. I was blown away, just as you will be when you get your hands on their self titled debut release. Powerful, rocking songs served up by one hell of a band! Just one thing, this album MUST be played maximum volume! - Highly Recommended

TIGER BLOOD by The Quill
(Metalville Records)

The Quill are back, with their seventh studio release, 'Tiger Blood'. Delivering that sound their fans all know but with a modern sonic force that expands once you press play on your stereo. This is the band's seventh release. I've been a fan of The Quill since 'Voodoo Caravan'. While the band have gone through a few changes the core of the band now consists of guitarist Christian Carlsson and drummer Jolle Atlagic (ex- Hanoi Rocks, The Real McCoy Band). While Magnus Arnar on vocals and Roger Nilsson (ex- Spiritual Beggars, Firebird) on bass guitar complete the band. 'Tiger Blood' is a tight configuration of grooves and riffs. As is evident on tracks like "Freak Parade", "Go Crazy" and "Greed Machine", only a band with the longevity and talent they posess could have made this music and it really shows. Magnus Arnar' s vocals are solid and in my opinion sounds much better than his effort on the band's previous outing, 'Full Circle'. Don't get me wrong, I think Magnus has a great set of pipes. On this album, their is more diversity in his vocal delivery. As for the band, Christian Carlsson' s guitar work is stellar. The rhythm section of Atlagic and Nilsson give The Quill a rock solid foundation. The Quill clearly does not rely on gimmicks such as sleeves of skull tattoos, visually repulsive t-shirts or any other such cliche'd rock-house dreck to prove they deserve to be heard and appreciated in 2013. I believe with 'Tiger Blood, The Quill will get the recognition they truly deserve. For those of you that are new to The Quill or simply want a great rock album, give The Quill a shot. For those of who are familiar with The Quill, 'Tiger Blood' is an essential listen. - Highly Recommended

ALBATROSS by Big Wreck
(Zoe Records)

When was the last time you could listen to a album and have it start and finish strong with no fillers in the middle? I know it's a rarity, but 'Albatross' the latest release from Canadian rockers Big Wreck is one such album. A welcome return eleven years since the band's hit debut, 'In Loving Memory...'. 'Albatross' is proof that a rock band can evolve without losing their identity. Big Wreck's sound is current and accessible. The talent of all four members of this outfit is evident all over the album. I for one like a bit of variety, and this album brings that. Ian Thornley's vocals really carry-out the feel of the lyrics in every song. His vocals, for me, are reminiscent of Chris Cornell. Thornley's powerful vocals are perfectly matched by four awesome musicians who complete Big Wreck: Brian Doherty on guitars, Paulo Beta on guitars, Dave McMillan on bass and Brad Park on drums. I love this effort from Big Wreck. It has something for everyone with a natural flow to it. As is evident on the opening mover, "Head Together" reminding me why I am big fan of this band. The next track, "A Million Days", a mid-tempo mover that may echo Soundgarden in parts, but make no mistake this is pure Big Wreck. The title track, in my book, a instant rock classic. With it's hypnotic groove combined with Thornley's surreal vocals. It's one those songs that once you hear it, you get lost in it's beauty. All thirteen track on this album are guaranteed to satisfy. I for one, hope we embrace Big Wreck the way our neighbors from the Great White North have. Tough in today's music industry I would think but tell your friends and get the word out. 'Albatross' rocks and all levels and comes highly recommended. - Highly Recommended

THE SOUND OF BREAKING FREE
by The Ragged Saints
(Power Prog Records)

'The Sound Of Breaking Free' the stunning debut release from Finnish rockers, The Ragged Saints is an extremely well-written melodic rock album. The Ragged Saints are Markku Kuikka on vocals,  Tomi Julkunen on guitars, Toni Bite on guitars, Jukka Hoffrén on bass and Miikki Kunttu on drums. The Ragged Saints serve up an impressive debut outing. Every song is a winner, and before too long you'll find yourself singing along to just about every track. Album opener, "The Sound Of Breaking Free" starts things off with a bang, and is easily worth the price of the album all by itself. Other highlights of the album are, "A Place Where I Belong", "New Beginnings", "Love Won't Fade Away" and "While The World Is Burning" which fall in the melodic hard rock (bordering on melodic metal) category. "Never Walk Away" contains catchy guitar riffs, one of the album's most addictive choruses and an energetic vocal performance filled with emotion and confidence. "The End" is the perfect album closer. It carries an epic atmosphere vibe of mid-career Europe and early Pretty Maids. Tomi Julkunen and Toni Bite demonstrate amazing guitar work and  Markku Kuikka delivers a true vocal exhibition. 'The Sound Of Breaking Free' is an knockout of a release that will be loved by  melodic rock fans, while it will surely be respected by open minded metal fans as well. Fans of Journey, Foreigner and Toto will probably love this too. The Ragged Saints should be in every melodic rock fan's collection. - Highly Recommended

BRIEF NOCTURNES & DREAMLESS SLEEP
by Spock's Beard
 (Inside Out Records)

Prog rockers Spock's Beard return with their 11th album, 'Brief Nocturnes & Dreamless Sleep'. This is the band's first studio release since their 2012's 'X'. This recording is also is the first without drummer/vocalist Nick D'Virgilio, who was replaced by Enchant vocalist Ted Leonard and former touring drummer Jimmy Keegan. I've been a long time fan of Spock's Beard despite the departures of Nick D'Virgilio and Neal Morse, the band still sound sharp as ever. New singer, Ted Leonard reminds me a lot of a young Steve Walsh from Kansas, which is a good thing. Plus the guy is a great guitar player. So what does the new album bring? Many of the lyrics on the album like on "Afterthought" and a lot of the musical arrangements sound like they are straight out of the Neal Morse song book. "Waiting For You", is a song that Neal Morse would have recorded. 'Brief Nocturnes & Dreamless Sleep' may be keyboardist, Ryo Okumoto's finest moment, he shines on every track. On a whole the whole album is an amazing listen. A great mix of progressive songs that are rock solid and have catchy moments. If you are able to get your hands on the limited edition version, it's very worthwhile. The extra songs hold their own, "Wish I Were Here" has a welcome return of the sound of their early recordings. Overall, 'Brief Nocturnes & Dreamless Sleep' is very distinctly Spock's Beard and should be enjoyed by fans of Spock' s Beard as well as anyone who enjoys Progressive Rock music. - Highly Recommended

(Frontier Records)

'Heresy And Creed' is TEN s 10th studio album following their successful 2010 return with 'Stormwarning' .Singer and songwriter, Gary Hughes worked hard to live up to the expectations surrounding this new album. Such has been his prolific output of quality material over the years. I consider Gary Hughes, arguably one of the greatest British songwriters of all time; 17 years later, armed with this seemingly 'Heresy and Creed' is a true classic Ten album. Classic hook laden songs. The instrumental piece, "The Gates Of Jerusalem" sets off this masterpiece then seguing right into, the majestic "Arabian Knights". The lead off single "Gunrunning" is next highlighted with some amazing guitar work courtesy of new member, Dan Mitchell. "The Lights Go Down" is classic TEN at their finest. 13 tracks total, power and passion with not a weak song to be found. Due in part to a superb mix courtesy of Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69), 'Heresy And Creed' will prove once again that when it comes making great melodic rock music, Ten are at the top of the genre and the top of their game. If Ten has somehow dropped off your radar as of late, 'Heresy and Creed' will make you a Ten fan all over again! Cheers gents! For a job well done. - The Atomic Chaser @The Dedicated Rocker Society/All Access Magazine

SNAKECHARMER by Snakecharmer
(Frontier Records)

What started as just a group of rock veterans getting together as tribute band playing songs from their glory days. Has evolved into their own powerful rock and roll band. Snakecharmer is powered by, Whitesnake members Micky Moody on guitar and Neil Murray on bass, Laurie Wisefield on guitar, Harry James (Thunder/Magnum), Adam Wakeman on keyboards and Chris Ousey (Virginia Wolf/Heartland) on vocals. Musically, Snakecharmer is everything one would expect from musicians with such resumes: a finely crafted Classic Rock album with Blues and Melodic overtones, that will remind many of Whitesnake' s Blues era, Bad Company and with hints of early Foreigner thrown into the mix. The band's tight chemistry is evident from the get go with, "My Angel", a mid-tempo mover that is catchy and will have you singing along in no time flat. The lead off single, "Accident Prone", is s melodic gem powered by Ousey' s smooth vocal delivery. Then there is, "Falling Leaves", a bluesy ballad that will tug at the heart string. Every track, 12 in total are all rock solid. No fillers here. Let's clear the air Snakecharmer is not Whitesnake. I am tired of reading the comparisons. This band has it's own sound and can stand toe to toe with any rock band out right now. Having been a fan of the band members previous works, I had a hunch that I would like Snakecharmer. Not only am I completely satisfied, I wouldn't hesitate recommending this album to anyone who loves rock and roll music. I for one can't wait to hear what Snakecharmer comes up with next! Cheers Gents for a job well done. Highly Recommended- The Atomic Chaser @The Dedicated Rocker Society/All Access Magazine

TAKING OF BLACKHEART
by Five Horse Johnson
(Small Stone Records)

Toledo, Ohio's Five Horse Johnson return with their seventh release, 'The Taking Of Blackheart'. The formula these boys serve up is what they do oh so well, crank it up hard and heavy groove laden rock played by musicians who know are not afraid to unleash the almighty riff! Five Horse Johnson is, Eric Oblander/Vocals & Harp, Brad Coffin /Vocals & Guitar, Steve Smith/Bass, Phil Dürr./Guitar and Jean Paul Gaster/Drums. Cearly enjoying layin' it all out with passion. Five Horse Johnson is the kind of band you hear while waking by a pub that would make you turn around and go inside. Just imagine a Stoner Rock band would sound like if they had never heard any Black Sabbath, but had owned a lot of classic Blues Records. Slide guitars, harmonica, a voice that sounds like it's soothed by gargling broken glass, and lyrics that range from low down and dirty to deep and insightful. 'Taking Of Blackheart' is a solid listen all the way through. Highlights include, "The Job", "Black Heart Baby", "Smash & Grab" and  a cover of the underground classic "You're My Girl" with vocals from Robin Zander of Cheap Trick! Reminiscent of Savoy Brown meets Firebird with hints of the Black Crowes,l and Halfway To Gone. If you like slide guitar, harmonica/harp and Bonham influenced drum grooves then you are in for a good time when you pick up a copy of, 'Taking Of Blackheart'. Overall, I would highly recommend Five Horse Johnson to anyone with an interest in Classic Rock or Stoner Rock or indeed to most people with an interest in The Blues. Five Horse Johnson are a very enjoyable and hugely underrated band, who make a consistent stream of high quality music. Any of their albums would make a fine addition to your collection, and 'Taking Of Blackheart' is no exception. - Highly Recommended

HEAVEN IN THIS HELL by Orianthi
(Robo Records)

Thank God for Dave Stewart for a great job producing and recognizing the true calling for Orianthi. This lady is a triple threat in my books. I believe Mr. Stewart recognized that. Orianthi has looks that kill, a great bluesy sultry voice and can play one mean guitar. Having cited influences such as Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Orianthi puts her talents on display for all to enjoy with her latest release, 'Heaven In This Hell'. The 11 track album includes the riff heavy title track "Heaven In This Hell" and closes with "If U Were Here With Me" a rock ballad, which showcases a softer side to the guitarist. In between these songs, I was pleased to find a couple of bluesy, country cross-over tracks like "Rock" and "Another You" that feature solos that showcase her skills without going overboard. Then there is the southern swagger of "Filthy Blues" you can definitely hear the spirit Hendrix in her guitar work and her vocals reminded me a bit of Pat Benatar. Trying to pick a hit song out of the bunch is difficult because the album is damn good! Orianthi continues to mature as an artist and vocalist and it is evident throughout the entire album. In my opinion, this is the album Orianthi has wanted to make all along. Let me make it clear, 'Heaven In This Hell', is definitely a rock album. Taking nothing away from her previous outings, but she's a rocker, no if or ands about it. She's jammed with the likes of Steve Via, Alice Cooper and Michael Jackson. That's got to give you an idea how talented this lady truly is. Orianthi is a welcome departure in a time when all female artist sound the same and seem to be interchangeable. Orianthi is not.
It remains to be seen how far Orianthi will develop, in my book she's among the most promising young artist/guitarists out there today.

ORTHODOX by Beware The Darkness
(Bright Antenna)

Los Angeles-based rockers Beware of Darkness have managed to create a unique sound with their first full-length album, 'Orthodox'. This is one of those albums that sounds great the first time you hear it! The Charismatic and mesmerizing Kyle Nicolaides fronts this rock trio accompanied by Tony Cupito on drums and Daniel Curcio on bass. The music is dynamic and intense. The lead off single kicks off, "Howl" kicks off the album. A rocker of a song that is packed with a undeniably catchy hook. The guitar riff is pure classic rock as Kyle Nicolaides shouts and Tony Cupito hammers away on the skins. Up next is, "Ghost Town", a slow and darker number highlighted by Nicolaides's raw vocals. Quite the opposite is, "Amen Amen", the lyrics are uplifting. The piano gives the song a suttleness but there are some great guitar maneuvers throughout. From there your senses will be treated to an extensive and diverse range of emotions from tracks like, "All Who Remain", "Morning Tea", and "Life On Earth". 12 tracks total all rock solid. Give, Beware The Darkness a shot and you won't be disappointed. Hats off to Kyle, Tony and Daniel for putting together one hell of an album! I have no doubt we will be hearing a lot more from this amazing band. - Highly Recommended

CAGE THE GODS
Rock Music's Newest Guilty Pleasure
& Your New Favourite Sin
Interview by The Dedicated Rocker Society

Cage The Gods, the sensational new British rock band that fuse together rock ‘n’ roll culture from the four corners of the UK in a thunderously blues-inspired fashion. With a sound is drenched in vintage Rock ala Faces, Stones, Free and Led Zeppelin. Make no mistake though, these lads bring their own flavor to the table.

Irish vocalist Peter Comerford and Scottish guitarist Jam formed the band in the summer of 2012 to record and release material they had already begun writing. Before long, the pair crossed paths with 6’7” Welsh bassist Mitch Witham. Young English drummer Colin Jones is the most recent addition having replaced original drummer NJ who in true rock n roll fashion went on a booze fuelled week in Vegas with a 38 year old glamour model, got married by Elvis in ”The Chapel Of Love” and hasn’t been seen since…. Thankfully Jones was able to step up to the mark and solidify his place within the band after a charismatic debut performance supporting US-rockers Filter!

The band spent most of 2012 writing, producing, recording and mixing their debut, as yet untitled,  album due for release in early 2014. Not content with just making a great record they then mastered it, designed the sleeve, manufactured a limited edition fan version and proceeded to set about procuring management and live agents without a second thought. Spin forward into 2013 and they had secured all the above and more with international management, major promoters and UK & US booking agents all in tow.

Their self released debut four-track EP “FAVOURITE SIN” will be released on November 25 in both the UK and USA and will support their opening slot on The Answer’s UK/Irish tour (see below). The EP is backed with “From the Start”, “Wake Up” and “Sacrifice (acoustic)”. “We all have that one thing…that taboo…that guilty pleasure…the forbidden fruit that we know probably isn’t good for us but is just too goddamn enticing to ignore! Well Favourite Sin is about leading the innocent down that path…showing them the hidden bliss within their darkest guilty secret!”

Having recently supported the Radio One play listed Heavens Basement and Classic Rock best new band winners TRACER, Cage The Gods are set to play many more dates in 2013. The Rocker and I cannot imagine a better, deeper, and more assertive offering at a revival. If you want nostalgic pangs of the Classic rock era but with a fresh, urgent feel done with attitude and passion, do not miss out on Cage The Gods. The Rocker and I asked the lads a few questions about their music, influences and their recipe for world domination. Here's what they shared with us.

Love the name of the band, Cage The Gods. How and who came up with the name for the band? How did the band come about?

Jam: I did, singer Peter and I had known each other for several years and we began writing and recording songs together in my studio. After a while we grew restless of not playing them live and decided to put a band together. We bounced around loads of ideas for a name as we were quite fussy and wanted something which accurately reflected the music and was equally memorable (AC/DC was taken). After jamming with several drummers and bassists we found NJ, our original drummer - who couldn’t handle the pace and married a mature LA glamour model - but not before introducing us to a bloody good bass player called Mitch. After NJ eloped, Mitch suggested his mate Colin try out. Colin fitted in straight away and raised our game overnight. He had to; our first gig together was opening for Filter in London!

Your EP, 'Favourite Sin' will be released on the 24th of November. Your other EP, 'The Ending (All I Ever Wanted) was released this past October. Are you happy with the response you've received so far? When can we expect a full release from you?

Jam: "The Ending (All I Ever Wanted)" EP was never released as we had a last minute change of plan when we came up with a good concept for a "Favourite Sin" video and decided to lead with that track instead! 'Favourite Sin' (out 25th Nov) is our first proper release and we’ve had a great response so far from Classic Rock Magazine and Planet Rock and Team Rock radio in the UK. Our full album "Badlands", which contains "The Ending (All I Ever Wanted)", will be out March 2014! We can't wait!

The video for, "Bruce Willis (My Time Is Now)" is great. Where was the video shot? So, We take it you are all Bruce Willis fans?

Mitch: Why thank you, it was fun shooting it! The Video was shot in a cool little venue in the wonderful coastal city of dreams that is Brighton, UK. Yeah Willis is a cool dude but was a bit pricy for our budget so we settled for a lookalike......mind you he’s not as cool as the Depp man ....while we're on the subject of movie stars I feel the need to mention that I got to meet Johnny Depp back when I was 15...he acknowledged my existence.....this very fact got me a lot of female attention back in college and I feel I have to bring it up as often as possible!

What was it like touring with The Answer and Tracer this past October? Any lessons learned from that tour?

Mitch: It was a massive learning experience for me! Most of it was a haze but from what I remember they were amazing guys to tour with...they looked after us..the banter was great and they really know how to put on a show! Any lessons?.....Yeah don't try to out-drink an Australian rock band.....it’s a well known fact that a 3 piece Australian rock band can out drink a small Welsh town.
Jam: The main lessons learned from the last tour were by Mitch namely: 1. Don’t shut your fingers in the van door and 2. Don’t shove toilet paper up your arse and let me light it... - Both hard lessons learned.

Who are your musical influences?

Peter: I listen to a lot of rock n roll; our sound is defiantly routed in it. 60s and 70s bands like The Stones, Skynyrd, Aerosmith, and Zeppelin. 80s bands like The Cult, U2, GNR and Metallica to some extent. 90s bands like The Black Crowes, Oasis & Rage etc. It all adds to the flavour.
Mitch: My influences....hmmm love, anger, depression, joy, sex, shame and sin......oh and Jack Daniels......yeah definitely Jack! On a serious note though....for me personally a lot of my influences are heavily rooted into punk so bands like The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, The Clash.......a lot of bands which start with "the"!

Are there any plans (hopefully in the near future) of coming over to America for some shows? Who would you like tour with when you do come over? Notice, We said, "When", not "If".

Mitch: The British invasion will be taking place hopefully early 2014.....should be attending SXSW festival in Austin which will be awesome! There's a lot of bands out there which would be cool to tour with Alterbridge, Buckcherry, Nickleback.
Colin: Papa Roach, Halestorm, Alterbridge.

What separates Cage The Gods from the other rock bands that out right now?

Peter: We just know what we want, especially when it comes to our own sound and how we write and record our songs. And we’ve been able to capture it all ourselves; recording, producing and mixing, everything you’ll hear on the new EP and debut album. I can’t say I know a lot of bands that do the same. The main thing is to try and write honest songs that are in some way relevant to how you feel regardless of whether they fall into the “rock” genre.
Jam: From 95% of them I'd say our music is better. From the rest we are younger, more driven and hungrier! We're a modern take on everything that was good about 80's Rock n Roll!
Mitch: Oh and no one else has a 6ft7 charming..chiselled....bass player.....not to blow my own trumpet or anything!

Complete this sentence - You check out Cage The Gods because......

Jam: If you're a single girl (or even if you're not), there is a good chance Mitch will be game. If you're a guy then because we rock hard!
Mitch: We showcase powerful hard rock tunes via a high energy performance leaving you in awe and we all have delightful accents!

As a band, what goals have you set for yourselves?

Mitch: Musical world domination! Colin: Be real and honest and tour for the rest of our lives.
Jam: Getting sandwiches on our rider.

Any parting comments or words for your fans?

Jam: To anyone who likes our music we are all very grateful and if you haven't seen us live yet, we hope you will soon and come and say hello!
Colin: We can't wait to get this E.P and Album out to everyone so you can hear what we have been creating and start meeting you, wherever you may be!
Mitch: I look forward to getting out to the States and meeting all you wonderful rockers and I hope you enjoy what it is that we do!.....Also bring Jack (Daniels)!

Thanks guys!

Billboard Announces Legendary Guitarist Rich Robinson
(The Black Crowes) Signs with The End Records
for New Solo Album 'The Ceaseless Sight'

New York, NY (November 20, 2013) -  Brooklyn indie label The End Records along with Circle Sound are proud to announce the signing of legendary guitarist and musician Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes) for his new solo album 'The Ceaseless Sight' coming out Spring 2014.

Robinson had this to say, “I'm very excited to be partnering with The End Records and ADA to release my album. Andreas is a long time music fan and has some very forward ideas on how to get music out there, but more importantly for me, how to allow the artist to create pure music without the inevitable commercial vs art clash that comes from a more traditional approach. All of Andreas' team shares these qualities. It's going to be great.”

READ ABOUT THE SIGNING ON BILLBOARD

Best known as the guitarist, songwriter and founding member of The Black Crowes, Rich Robinson stands ready to complete the solo evolution he began ten years earlier. Strongly influenced by music greats such as The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers Band, Neil Young, and Led Zeppelin, Rich cultivates his talents as a guitarist, vocalist and lyricist to create his finest solo endeavor yet.

Among recording The Black Crowes albums, Rich has composed and released two previous solo albums garnering the attention of fans and press alike. "Robinson is blessed with the ability to capture the best of the early 70s Stones vibe, combining the riff-spewing rhythm talents of Keith Richards with Mick Taylor’s melodic sensibilities." - Jambands.  "Robinson admirably pulls off a triple-threat of feeling in epic riffs, great singing, and interesting lyrics." - Premier Guitar

'The Ceaseless Sight' finds Robinson stepping solidly into his own as a solo artist as he adds confident vocalist and lyricist to his accomplished musical resume. Currently finishing up a worldwide Black Crowes tour, Rich is looking forward to announcing Rich Robinson and Friends dates, which will take them around the country for the whole of 2014 in support of the new record.

UK Retro-power Rockers STUBB
Sign Worldwide Deal With Ripple Music

RIPPLE MUSIC is proud to announce the signing of acclaimed, hard-hitting UK-based retro-heavy rockers, STUBB to their ever-expanding roster!

Stubb was formed in 2006 with Jack Dickinson on guitar and vocals, Aaron O'Sullivan on drums and Isa Bruni on bass. The power trios of the late 60's and early 70's were the blueprint for their loud driving, fuzzed up heavy blues rock.  In 2009, Chris West joined on drums and Peter Holland on bass (both also members of Trippy Wicked), solidifying the first classic line-up. The band recorded their first full length album for Chris West's label Superhot Records, and hit the road, gigging with such heavy rock luminaries as the Gentlemans Pistols, Firebird, Cherry Choke, Steak, Sungrazer and The Machine as well as appearing at Desertfest to a packed house Purple Turtle. Making the trip over to Europe twice with Stone Axe from the USA further cemented Stubb's reputation as a solid live act with some serious chops.

"We are delighted to be signing with Ripple Music, who are one of the hardest working independent labels on the scene," Dickinson said. "To be alongside the likes of Mos Generator, Mothership, Stone Axe and Grifter as labelmates is an honour and a pleasure. The new record will bring you the sound of Stubb that along with a whole load of new shades and surprises. We hope to come and play in front of new audiences and treat you all to the loud sound of three guys doing what they love."

With the departure of Chris West, the band recruited Tom Fyfe (ex-Olde Crone) as the new drummer.  Tom brings another new sound to the powerful rhythm section as they prepare to head to Skyhammer Studios with Chris Fielding, January 26 - 30 to record their Ripple Music debut.  The album will mixed and mastered by Mos Generator's Tony Reed at Heavy Head Studios, guaranteeing a sonic explosion of heaviness.

For the growing legions of Ripple fans, known as the Waveriders, Stubb will be another must-hear addition to the ranks of bands that already include such heavy rockers as Mos Generator, Devil to Pay, Mothership, Trucker Diablo and Ape Machine. You can bet that the combination of Stubb and Ripple Music will be a combustible mixture!

Be sure to catch Stubb live:
11/29 @ Hard Rock Hell Festival - Wales
