CD REVIEW: KNOCKOUT by UNBREAKABLE
KNOCKOUT by Unbreakable
(Dark Star Records)
UNBREAKABLE is a German Hard-Rock-/Heavy-Metal-Band from Hessen, Germany. The band explode onto the music scene with their debut release, 'Knockout'. Produced by former Scorpions Drummer, Herman Rarebell. The album was recorded at the PRINCIPAL STUDIOS Muenster, Germany and the KIDROOM STUDIO with MICHAEL VOSS (Mad Max/ producer Michael Schenker). The band – which is comprised of Al Crespo (vocals), Martin Ries (guitar), Pascal Alles (guitar), Lukas Mittler (bass), and Alexander Ries (drums). So, how would I describe Unbreakable's sound? Unbreakable have that mid-late 80s "Scorpions" sound written all over it; more accurately is built from the very same characteristics. Huge hooks, huge melodies, huge production and especially huge vocal harmonies. This is the kind of classic melodic rock album that's a glorious throwback to the days when AOR ruled the radio and packed stadiums. This is just a classic-sounding melodic rock album that makes you want to drive faster, play it louder, and just have more fun all around . Power chords, great guitar riffs and power drumming all mixed into great melody and progressions. Rarely do I like every song this album but these guys nailed it. Every track is great, hard to chose a favorite. Highlights for me are; Knockout", the lead off single, "Rock The Nightlife", "Bad Blood", "Obession", "Back To The Roots" and "We Are Dreamers". Just about every aspect of this album is top-notch, but the vocals led by Al Crespo, really steal the show. His voice has a smooth and powerful quality, that reminded me of a young Klaus Meine, which is the perfect counterpart to the pristine guitar work and infectious rhythms. It's like the best of 80's power metal but with an edge! 'Knockout' positively jumps out you, huge choruses, magnificent production, good track balance. Heavy but extremely melodic. A pleasure to listen to. If you are a fan of driving guitar riffs and catchy melodies you love what Unbreakable bring to the table. Looking forward to hearing more from these guys and would love to see them tour in America! - Highly Recommended
