CD REVIEW: STRAIGHT UP BOOGALOO by The Muggs
STRAIGHT UP BOOGALOO by The Muggs
(Grooveyard Records)
Motor City power rock trio The Muggs are back with their latest release, 'Straight Up Boogaloo'. Guitarist Danny Methric, bassist Tony DeNardo and drummer Todd Glass serve blues base rock music that is powerful, ass-kickin' hard guitar rock with an authentic early 70's influenced, bluesy, crunchy, psychedelic style. Trippy, burning guitar leads, pounding, chugging rhythm section and soaring rock-star vocals combine for a killer rock `n' roll experience. Recalling bands like Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath, Leaf Hound, Free, Grand Funk Railroad, Graveyard, James Gang, refreshing retro rock fun with a serious kick. From the opening riff of the ball busting "Applecart Blues", The trio pull no punches and unleash a fury of rock and roll goodness. Talk about swagger, these boys bring it ten fold! I've been a long time fan of these Detroit boys since their self titled debut and I have to say, 'Straight Up Boogaloo', is the best the band has ever sounded. It is power. Its is energy, heavy, loud, everything a rock record should be. As evident with rockers like, " "Fat City", "Lighting Cries", "Tomorrow's Dream", the down and dirty title track and the bombastic "Rattlesnake Shake". No joke, every track on this album begs to be cranked to maximum volume. It's tough to find new bands these days who are original, but can evoke that early 70's hard rock without being mere copy cats and sounding cliche. The Muggs are the REAL DEAL. Ridiculously good! - Highly Recommended
