OVER MY DEAD BODY by Tony Mills
( Battlegod Productions)
One of rock music's finest and most powerful voices, Tony Mills is back with his latest release, 'Over My Dead Body'. I've been a fan of Tony Mills work ever since his days in Shy, the highly underrated and over looked, Siam and China Blue. As well as his brief stint with TNT and his solo releases. 'Over My Dead Body' is a concept album that Mills co-wrote with Robert Sall from the Swedish AOR band, Work Of Art. Tony has also recruited his old collaborator from his days in Shy days producer Neil Kernon. The album also features an all-star cast of musicians backing Tony up; Paul Sabu (ONLY CHILD), Henning Ramseth (RETURN), Robert Sall (W.E.T. /WORK OF ART), Andreas Olsson Passmark (ROYAL HUNT/ex DIVINEFIRE/NARNIA), Douglas Docker (DOCKERS GUILD/ex BILOXI), Andreas Nergard (NERGARD), Victor Borge (TNT) and of course the ubiquitous keyboardist Eric Ragno (ex CHINA BLUE/ex TAKARA/ex AMERICAN ANGEL). Back to front, this a very strong release for Tony Mills. There are shades of Progressive rock with, “Time Won’t Wait”, "No Love Lost", “We Should Be On By Now” and "Northern Star", that call to mind his days is Siam and Shy. Mills also shows a melodic side his repertoire with, "28 Flights", the Queen-ish vibe of, "Bittersweet" as well as "4 In The Morning" and "Somewhere In London". The closing track, "Free Spirit", is a gem of a power ballad showcasing Tony Mills vocal prowess. You know, after hearing that Tony had cardiac surgery a few months back , I wondered if he'd ever perform again. After hearing this album, it's obvious, Tony Mills is back and sounding better than ever! Fans of great music and certainly fans of progressive melodic rock and rock will find very little here to criticize. Consistently great, 'Over My Dead Body' is definitely on my "Top 10" list this year, and as with all things Tony Mills a collection of songs and emotions to enjoy repeatedly for years to come. Welcome back Tony! - Highly Recommended
