CD REVIEW: BEHIND THE VEIL by The Burning Crows
(Burning Crows Records)
‘Behind The Veil’ the full length debut release from UK rockers, The Burning Crows is an album you get your hands on because you’re looking for some high octane party rock songs about drinking, women, rocking and maybe drinking and rocking with women. This is good time rock n’ roll that takes the AC/DC/Motley Crue/Aerosmith vibe into the 21st Century. The Burning Crows is made up of, Whippz on guitars and vocals, Lance Daniels on guitar and backing vocals, Will Lockett on bass and backing vocals and Chris Chapman on drums and backing vocals. It’s a shame music like this is ignored by mainstream radio, because modern rock stations could use a swift kick in the ass! ‘Behind The Veil’ is a steady amount of meat and potatoes rock for classic rock lovers, combined with just the right amount of sleaze to please any faithful hair metal fan out there. “Slow. Up, Get Down” is a masterpiece, just a great rock track. The smoking opener “High” and the follow up track “All The Way” kick off the album in grand fashion, and the rest of the songs, 14 total, are guaranteed to satisfy your rock and roll appetite. Most importantly, the songs rock, and are catchy. If you like rock music hard but melodic with lots of attitude, energy and fast flying guitars, give The Burning Crows a listen. You won’t be disappointed. – Highly Recommended

CD REVIEW: HEAD DOWN by Rival Sons
(Earache Records)
Blues-infused California rockers Rival Sons return with their highly anticipated third release, ‘Head Down’. Picking up from where left off with their previous outing, ‘Pressure & Time’, Rival Sons are out to put the music world on notice. In my opinion, Rival Sons are by far the most over looked band in the States right now, although that might change very soon. The band is fueled by Jay Buchanan on vocals, Scott Holiday (guitar), Robin Everhart (bass) and Michael Miley on drums. Jay Buchanan’s vocal range is out of this world! Imagine Robert Plant in his prime (yeah, he’s that good). Lead guitarist Scott Holiday sounds like he is a Jimmy Page clone at times while Robin Everhart and Michael Miley keep the rhythm lines tight as white on rice. The musical make up on, ‘Head Down’, is like a fusion of rock classics spanning fifty years and is flawless with a fresh vibe to it. The boys come out swinging with the powerful, “Keep On Swinging” a great song with an infections chrous. It has that Led Zeppelin feel ala, “Nobody’s Fault But Mine”. Then you have ,”Wild Animals”, a smooth mover that has an infectious groove to it. “You Want To”, a is fully charged rocker that will give you goose bumps. The break down of this song showcases Jay Bucannon’s amazing and powerful vocal range. “Until The Sun Comes” has that Beach Boys vibe to it in terms of giving the listener visions of a Summer’s day in California. All 13 tracks are rock solid. Driving, intense and passion filled. A raw and aggressive sound that doesn’t hold back any punches. A throwback to the vintage rock sound of the 60′s and 70′s. Truly a Classic Rock band for the 21st Century. Rival Sons are a game changer. An evolution of greatness and if they can keep it together they will without a shadow of a doubt make their mark, big time! ‘Head Down’ comes highly recommended.

CD REVIEW: ANTIGRAVITY SOUND MACHINE by Eldorado
(Bad Reputation Records)
Eldorado return with their third release, ‘Antigravity Sound Machine’ and it’s a keeper. The quartet responsible for recording this amazing slab of rock and roll are, Jesus Trujillo on vocals, Cesar Sanchez on bass, Andres Duende on guitar and Javier Planelles on drums. Taking their cues from the sounds of Humble Pie, The Faces, Deep Purple, Led Zep and The Stones. Eldorado draws a healthy respect for the greats and turns it into a contemporary and irresistible sound with a firm focus on making sure your rock and roll taste buds are completely satisfied. Satisfaction is what you get once you press play and “Maybe Forever” fires out of your speakers. That influence of the greats I mentioned are front and center with the next two tracks, “Mr. Saturn” and “Like A Lost Child”. Both having that Deep Purple meets Uriah Heep vibe. While movers like, “Another Bright Sunday” and “Space Mambo” exhibit Eldorado’ s rock solid chemistry like a well oiled rock and roll machine. All in all ‘Antigravity Sound Machine’ is an extremely well-executed album that should please fans of both classic and modern rock. If bands like Eldorado represent the future of rock & roll in the 21st Century (and by God they should), we’re in good hands.

CD REVIEW: RAISE THE CURTAIN by Oliva
(AFM Records)
Jon Oliva returns with the debut release, 'Raise The Curtain' under his namesake, Oliva. The album contains ideas collected over the last four or five years and also compositions by Jon`s brother Criss (Savatage). Jon performed on all the instrument tracks and vocals himself as well as playing drums on three songs. Having been a Jon Oliva fan since his early days in Savatage as well as his other projects, Doctor Butcher and Jon Oliva' s Pain. I was eager to hear how Jon would blow my mind with this album? I found out as soon as I pressed play. "Raise the Curtain" opens the album as an intro then right into the brooding and heavier "Soul Chaser". Other outstanding songs include "Father Time","Soldier" and the catchy hooks in "Can't Get Away". Fans of Savatage will love, "Ten Years" and "The Witch". Jon Olivia is simply incredible and what he has done with this recording is truly remarkable. The creative musical genius of this man is stamped all over this masterpiece of a recording more than you can imagine. No record company pushing him into something he didn't want to do, instead this recording comes from the heart and soul, and to hell with what others think, and in the process, Jon Olivia has created a true masterpiece! 'Raise The Curtain' will take your senses to places you didn't see coming and leave you wanting to come back for more. - Highly Recommended
