CD REVIEW: ROCK 'N' ROLL DISASTER by Thundermother

ROCK 'N' ROLL DISASTER by Thundermother
(Warner Music)

Hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, the five piece femme fatale rock and roll outfit known as, Thundermother come roaring out the gates with their balls to the wall debut release, 'Rock 'N' Roll Disaster'. Clare Cunningham on vocals, Filippa Nässil on lead guitar, Giorgia Carteri on rhythm guitar, Linda Ström on bass and Tilda Stenqvist on drums. These ladies have toured with the likes of In Flames, Zakk Wylde, Danko Jones, Opeth, Motörhead and Airbourne. Leaving lasting impressions and the upmost respect. As Joel o´Keffe of AIRBOURNE has stated, "There are three great bands in the world: Bullet, Airbourne and THUNDERMOTHER!" Rock 'N' Roll Disaster', is loaded with booze-and-sweat-soaked rock 'n' roll that isn't looking to change the world by abolishing Free Trade, but simply provide the ultimate soundtrack to the biggest all-night rock party there is. The album launches from their fist-pumping  track "Man With Blues" to the anthemic , "Rock 'N' Roll Disaster" and the self-explanatory rock explosions of, "Thunderous" and  "Shoot To Kill. It all works, the lyrics are delivered with attitude and perspective. The shout along choruses, driving rhythms, and infectious guitar make this album simply addictive. 'Rock 'N' Roll Disaster' is a blistering album that never lets up from start to finish with nice guitar work and great energy. No, Thundermother aren't breaking any new ground and they wear their influences like orange prison jumpsuits, but they put it together into great, tight songs.
Thundermother are a band that flat out rocks! Play It LOUD! - Highly Recommended

CD REVIEW: STRANGE ON THE SIDE by Hammer Down

STRANGE ON THE SIDE by Hammer Down
(Independent Release)

South Jersey rockers, Hammer Down are back with their latest release, 'Strange On The Side'. Phil Michaels on vocals,guitar/ Joe DeLuca:piano, on Hammond,vocals/ Kevin Cooley on Lead and slide guitar/ Chico Crow on Bass and Joey Lampassi on drums. These lads dish out  a bluesy, classic rock-influenced sound that is raw and raunchy. 'Strange On The Side' is an extremely solid recording. There isn't anything particularly revolutionary included here, certainly no groundbreaking progression down uncharted musical avenues. What you get here is fourteen  perfectly crafted rock and roll gems , not a single one of which would sound out of place on nearly any classic 70's rock n roll album you could care to mention. Each song is explosive yet unique and will be appreciated by all who love good old fashioned rock and roll! From opening, "Crash Boom Bang" to the swagger of ballys rockers like , "Pretty Pretty", "Loaded Gun", "Social Disease" and "Dirty Tattoo", just perfect execution throughout . Real bluesy rock n roll. Fronted by Phil Michael's rock solid vocals with an equally talented rest of the band. Overall, 'Strange On The Side' by Hammer Down is a very strong album, and highly enjoyable. NO filler material on this album. 100% genuine rock and roll music, plain and simple. No hysterical vocals and the whole album is well put together and reasonably good production. You can listen to all the songs without hitting any that make you wonder what somebody was thinking when they left it in. I often do. If, like me, you loved the music of the classic rock period and wonder why everybody seems to have forgotten how to write and play it, you gotta have check out this band now! - Highly Recommended

CD REVIEW: THERE'S A STORM COMING by In Faith

THERE'S A STORM COMING by In Faith
(Rocktopia Records)

Contenders for "Best New AOR Band " for 2014, comes in the form of 'There's A Storm Coming' the stunning debut outing from U.K. based rockers, In Faith. The band is made up of Pete Godfrey (vocals, keyboards), Tony Marshall (guitar, bass), Pat Heath (guitar), Mike Corfield (keyboards) Brooke St James (guitar)  Pete Newdeck (drums, backing vocals). 'There's A Storm Coming'  is an album that shows just how good hard melodic rock can be, and should be in the collection of every young band wanting to venture out intio the melodic hard rock field...THIS is how it's done right! From start to finish, this is an unapologetic rocker through and through, but is so melodic and jam-packed with great choruses and guitar riffs you won't be able to get it out of your head for months. Fans of , Harem Scarem, Ten, FM, Hardline, and pretty much ANY melodic hard rock will find a lot to enjoy here. The melody and virtuosity on this album is simply stunning. Every song is vital and beautifully put together. The harmony and shear musicality of this band are fantastic. Tracks range from  arena anthems like "Does It Feel Like Love", and "Church Of Rock'n'Roll" to the melodic gem like, "Addicted" and the arresting charm of, "If That's What Love Means".  'There's A Storm Coming' by In Faith is one of those albums that you start listening once and end a couple of years later. It's impossible not to love this album, not to fall in it and finding it hard to come out and listen to something else. I would highly recommend this album to any fan of melodic rock music...heck, I'd recommend it to anyone who appreciates superior production, songwriting and musicianship regardless of their musical taste. - Highly Recommended

CD REVIEW: ALBION by Ten

ALBION by Ten
(Rocktopia Records)

UK based AOR rockers, TEN are back with their highly anticipated new album, 'Albion', the band's eleventh album. Gary Hughes (vocals, guitar), Dann Rosingana (guitar), Steve Grocott (guitar), John Halliwell (guitar), Darrel Treece-Birch (keyboards), Steve Mckenna (bass) and Max Yates (drums, percussion). The new album has everything a hard melodic rock/metal fan could want, combining elements of classical/symphonic rock and metal with progressive overtones. 'Albion' is not your typical arena rock, either. The songs are well constructed, and the production is flawless. The opening track, "Alone In The Dark Tonight", kicks things off in rocking fashion bursting into an all-out epic rocker. The mid tempo mover, "Battlefield", is another highlight. No matter if TEN are going for broke rockers like,"It's Alive", the muscular riff powered "A Smugglers Tale" and the catchy, "Die For Me" or ballads like "Sometimes Love Takes The Long Way Home", in my opinion, one of the best songs written by Gary Hughes or the melodic mover, "Wild Horses", they are all equally strong, with each song taking on its own identity and leaving a lasting impression well after the album is finished. You can expect explosive guitar parts and guitar shredding on all tracks, thick drumming that grants the album the very essence of 80's rock while Gary Hughes sings in his characteristic style of large choruses and inventive lyrics. The band sounds absolutely incredible here, and all of the details from the production to the cover artwork have been handled with impeccable style and precision. At the end of the day, Ten is still in top form, and still the most underrated band in the history of AOR, delivering a level of class, lyrical sophistication and melodic sense that is head and shoulders above any other band of their generation. Hands down! 'Albion' is amongst Gary Hughes' best works and is totally indicative of the "Ten"s musical ability as a group. - Highly Recommended

ARTIST INTERVIEW: OCTOBER RAGE from Australia

RAGE FOR ORDER
Interview with October Rage  from Australia
by The Dedicated Rocker Society

October Rage were dubbed one of the “hardest working bands in rock” on their seven month USA OUTRAGE tour which saw them racking up over 70,000 miles and 120 shows as they travelled across the country, ripping faces off with their blistering live show.

October Rage was formed by brothers Nick (vocals, guitar) and William (bass) Roberts in late 2008. Hailing from the Central Coast of NSW, Australia, they quickly gained notoriety by supporting Bon Jovi on their Circle Tour at sold out shows in Sydney.

With a debut album and various singles under their belts October Rage have played with some of the best live acts in the world including Steel Panther, Saliva, Sevendust and more.October Rage’s previous Album “Outrage” recorded with award winning producer Adrian Hannan is an itunes success boasting their hit single “Silver Line.”

Their next single, “White Walkers”, based on themes from the hit HBO television series “Game of Thrones” became number 1 on online radio station, Untapped Radio.

Now with new additions to the band Kai Chambers (drums) and John McMullen (guitar, keys) October Rage are currently tearing up the USA on their 'Fallout, Dust and Guns' release tour.

Q: How long have guys been together as a band? How did you guys come up  with the name for the band?

Nick: October Rage has been a band since late 2008 when my brother William and I decided to split from another group we  were in. October Rage was just something we came up with to express how we were feeling at the time.

Q: What is the song writing process for you as a band? Group or
individual?

William: The songs tend to take shape in the bedroom first believe it or not ha-ha. Nick will generally be in the middle of something, come up with a tune and have to race off to his room to write it down whilst jamming on the guitar. When he has something solid he will bring it to the rest of us and we will put arrangements around it to make it a beast.

Q: How would describe your band's musical approach? Who are some of your musical influences?

Nick: We grew up with dad blasting Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple every morning while we got ready for school so we were definitely influenced at a young age by the best music ever. I know it was the same for Kai and John too.

Q: Memorable moment(s) in the making of, ' FALLOUT, DUST AND GUNS', good or bad, that can share with us? Are you satisfied with how the album turned out?

Kai:  It was an overall blast working in Melbourne, it is the  first production with the current line up and definitely a step in the
right direction. The producers son (12) was a world champion at ping pong so every time we took a break from tracking we would go into the other room and get our collective butts kicked by this kid was funny. Especially for John who is super competitive when it comes to those things ha-ha.

Q: How's your current tour in the America going? Any memorable moments fromthe road you'd care to share with us (good or bad)? Absolutely amazing.

John:  This tour has been an epic experience, can’t believe how well the US has treated us this trip. There are always crazy moments, but we are a band of brothers so we make a huge effort to help each other out and  keep the rock and roll train rolling.

Q: What goals have set for yourselves as a band?

William:  We plan to finish up our 2014 tour in the middle of December and head back to our native Australia to do a tour there for a few months before returning next year to record and then a summer tour.

Q: Complete this sentence: The reason why you should check out October Rage is because...

....Have you ever seen the movie Wolf Creek?

CD REVIEW: JOIN THE PARTY by Stop Stop!

JOIN THE PARTY by Stop Stop!
(Metalapolis Records)

The power rock trio from Barcelona known as Stop Stop are back with their latest release, 'Join The Party'. Jacob A.M. (Lead singer & Bass guitar), Vega (Guitarist & Backing vocals) and Danny Stix (Drums & Backing vocals). The new album has everything you want in it: sing-a-long choruses, cool melodies and blazing guitar work. Stop Stop! is simply amazing. This power rock trio serve up elements of butt-rock with old-school rock'n'roll riffs and solo's and a little metal here and there. These guys got it all. literally. From the uptempo, guitar-screeching and sing-a-long chorus of  "Lost In The U.K." to the fast-paced, riff-rocking, "Love Machine", "Join The Party" and the raunchy rocker, "Toilet Party this album has it all. 'Join The Party' is the perfect party rock album. It will get the girls dancing, the guys rocking, and everyone reaching for another drink and having a good time. This is a very strong album that proves that Stop Stop! is showing us new beginnings with their old-school sound. It's loaded with just the right amount of wailing guitar, tight harmonies, and hooks that will stick in your head for days. I recommend this to all fans of bands such as AC/DC, Van Halen, Motley Crue and classic rock in general. The bottom line is that it's impossible to play this album and not have a good time. Once it starts, you will rock out! What more can you ask for? - Highly Recommended

CD REVIEW: SCARE FORCE ONE by Lordi

SCARE FORCE ONE by Lordi
(AFM Records)

21st Century "Shock Rockers", Lordi are back with their latest release, 'Scare Force One'. The Finnish five piece have been riding a whirlwind since 2006 starting with their show-stopping, never-before-seen Eurovision victory, the release of their own horror film, two European tours, two American tours, visits to Japan and New Zealand and several studio albums including their breakthrough disc, 'The Arokalypse'. The new album is another prime example of LORDI's quality. The vibe of the new album could be described as a mixture of "W.A.S.P."-like riffs, Alice Cooper sinister vocals and instrumental melodies complemented by AOR-ish keyboards; the contradicing surprise came to be Lordi's vocals, sings in a gory, monstrous style (Think Mandy Lion meets Rob Zombie) that allows him to come up with catchy melodies during the choruses, never going brutal. The songs have all have attitude and power
of Lordi's impressive vocal range. The fact that they're all dressed like McFarlane toys just reflects their over-the-top music. Still, when putting the theatrics aside, one comes to realize that "Lordi's" music is essentially super catchy 80's hard rock with a strong emphasis on partying and dark houmor. Songs like the first single "Nailed By The Hammer Of Frankenstein","How to Slice A Whore", "Cadaver Lover" or 'Monster Is My Name' are typical for this Finnish metallic horde and are enough to convince any fan on 80's oriented hard rock as establishing "Lordi" as the latest greatest force in Shock/horror metal. The "Get Your Rocks Off" signal has been turned on, so please fasten your seat belts - and prepare your senses to be, ROCKED and SHOCKED! Welcome to 'Scare Force One'! - Highly Recommended

CD REVIEW: F.S.O.A. (EP) by Pink Velvet Krush

F.S.O.A. (EP) by Pink Velvet Krush
( HighVolMusic )

The five song Ep, 'F.S.O.A' from Long Island, NY based rockers, Pink Velvet Krush is extremely solid from beginning to end. The band is comprised of, Doug ‘Savage’ Ramey on vocals, Guitarists Greg Polcari and Sean Quidgeon, new bassist Shane West and Ryche Green on drums. Pink Velvet Krush's music comes across as hard rock as well as well-crafted melodic rock. The guitar hooks and melodies are irresistible, the vocals have a great energy, and the whole album is just a lot of fun. There is absolutely no filler material on this Ep. All, five tracks are guaranteed to rock you to your foundation! Some are based on a very hard-rockin', infectuous guitar hooks like, the opening, "Nothin' To Lose", " F.S.O.A. (Fifty Shades Of Anything)" and "You Take My Life". Even when the band's shifts gears on the dark, "Obsession" they find a way to rock your senses. While "These Chains" revolve around big sing-along choruses, I think it is a safe bet that you'll find yourself singing "Nothin' To Lose" or "F.S.O.A. (Fifty Shades Of Anything)" long after the disc has stopped. Pink Velvet Krush have all the looks, hooks and chops you could ever ask for. 'F.S.O.A' is just a glimpse of bigger things to come. I can't wait to hear what these boys come with when they release their full length album! - Highly Recommended

CD REVIEW: THIRTEEN by Harem Scarem

THIRTEEN by Harem Scarem
(Frontier Records)

It's been six years since Harem Scarem's last studio release. So, was it worth the wait? After one listen, I can tell you this, HELL YEAH, it was worth the wait! Once again Canadian rockers, Harem Scarem have delivered a quality release that is not to be missed. The band return with their latest release, 'Thirteen'. Harem Scarem is one group that you just can't get enough of if you are into the melodic rock scene. Harry Hess: Lead and backup Vocals/Keys, Pete Lesperance: Guitars/Bass/Keys, Creighton Doane: Drums and Darren Smith: Backup Vocals.  As usual, Harem Scarem have produced a collection of outstanding songs filled with plenty of memorable hooks and solos. 'Thirteen' is extra special because the songs flow seamlessly making the album a joy to listen to all the way through every time. In addition, there is a great balance of heavy, melodic, ballad, acoustic sounds throughout From opening AOR gem, "Garden Of Eden" to the organic rush of, "Live It" and groove laden movers like, "Early Warning Signs" and "The Midnight Hours", this is classic Harem Scarem. Also what would a Harem Scarem recording be without a power ballad? The band serve up, "Whatever It Takes", a song that will tug at your heart string from the first to it's last note. Harry Hess' vocals are strong, emotive, and melodic, as always. And don't forget to bow down before the Guitar God, Pete Lesperance! [We're not worthy!] He's got more music in his mind and and technique in his fingers than any ten guitarists you could name. While Creighton Doane on drums keeps the band grounded. I can't emphasize enough how amazing the musicianship on this album is. These guys are masters of their craft. Why they haven't become popular in the States is beyond me. Harem Scarem absolutely, positively should be huge. It's a shame that they are not. Nonetheless, if you are a true melodic rock fan, you owe it to yourself to check out this amazing band. This album is as good a place as any to start. 'Thirteen' is phenomenal!- Highly Recommended

CD REVIEW: LOST IN THE CITY by Crash Midnight

LOST IN THE CITY by Crash Midnight
(BronxBridgeEnt/InGrooves)

So, how do you describe a band like Crash Midnight? Classic rock makes them sound like anything but the brash young upstarts they are, and tags like glam rock and hair metal don't fit either. How about this - they're a rock n' roll band that remembers how to have fun. If you're someone who enjoys bands like Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, The Stooges or Guns 'N' Roses you should love , 'Lost In The City', the debut release from Boston based rockers, Crash Midnight. Shaun Soho - lead vocals, Alex Donaldson - lead/rhythm guitars, Bo - bass guitar and Andrew Merkle - drums. The band's debut is rocking and catchy and you'll be banging your head throughout. 'Lost In City' is non-stop, in your face rock and roll. Crash Midnight is that band that tears down the local club with riotous songs about drinking and debauchery! The bass and drums are straight forward, rock steady, and keep a driving rhythm section pounding with force. The guitars are loaded with attitude and swagger and the vocals are awesome with a great sense of melody that fits the band's songs perfectly. Most importantly, the songs rock, and are catchy. Song titles like "151', "Made For The Money", "Welcome To Boston", "Diamond Boulevard" and "Goin' Down The Drain" tell you exactly what to expect from 'Lost In The City', and if those sound good to you, you're in good company. Crash Midnight is an up and coming band that I think will be capturing people's attention after this release. If you like your rock with attitude and lots of energy give these lads a listen. You won't be disappointed. - Highly Recommended
