CD REVIEW: CROWN THAT WEARS THE HEAD by Hong Faux
(Pristine Music)

Swedish rockers known as Hong Faux have finally released their highly anticipated full length album, 'Crown That Wears The Head'.  The buzzing and swirling guitars that herald this monster of a recording will stop you dead in your tracks and have your undivided attention once you hit play. The band is made up of , Nik Seren on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Johan Bergqvist on bass and backing vocals, Bjorn Billgren on lead guitar and Daniel Israelsson on drums. The opening track, "Present Tense-Less" is enough to suggest that this is no ordinary Swedish rock band. The track literally jumps out of the speakers with the manic energy of a turbo charged Chevy barreling down the road with no brakes loaded with killer drumming and crunching guitars. Hooks abound on the marvelous  midtempo rocker "Feign Death to Stay Alive". Hong Faux' s music is generously layered rock music with big nods to bands like The Foo Fighters with a dash of Queens Of The Stone Age thrown in to give the band that extra bite. Making for one hell of a rock and roll Molatav cocktail! "Hit Hard, Hit First", "Bad City Blues" are two rocking examples of that. The album contains eight tracks that takes the listener on a 33 minutes long rollercoaster ride through fuzzed up riffarama guitars and soaring vocals to the pounding sound of some very big Ludwig drums and heavy bass lines. Kudos to Nik Seren for a rock solid job on vocals. As fore rest of the band, they are rock solid and their chemistry is like white on rice.  All in all, 'Crown That Wears The Head' is a superb album from top to bottom...well-crafted rock and  roll which has been largely ignored by the music industry. How long can bands of this caliber continue to sustain themselves devoid of airplay? It's a sad state of affairs when Hong Faux and other tight acts, like the Libertines, Stereophonics, Alkaline Trio, etc. can't crack the airwaves while other talentless, music industry-created crap is jammed down our throats. It seems the only way Hong Faux and others like them will survive is through good reviews and aggressive word-of-mouth campaigns. Great band that has tons of energy and come highly recommended. - Highly Recommended

CD REVIEW: COLUMBUS WAY by Smokey Fingers
( Tanzan Music)

Smokey Fingers' debut outing, 'Columbus Way', is Southern hard rock at it's finest and I'm talking deep fried with one hell of a kick!  With a nod to great southern rock bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Blackfoot. Smokey Fingers taps into that fine line between country and rock where Southern Rock lives and these guys are from Lodi,Italy! I have to warn you, It is quite possible you might get pulled over for speeding listening to this album. The fast tracks on this album like the opening, "Old Jack", a whiskey soaked rocker that just flat out rocks the same can be said with the next set of  movers, "The Lover" and "Chains Of Mind". I'm telling you, these songs will make you want to just stomp down on the accelerator. The band changes things up with the mid tempo bluesy numbers, "Born To Run", "Die For Glory" and "Good Old Countryside". While, "Sweet Tears" shows that even when it comes to doing a good old southern ballad they do it oh so well. Smokey Fingers is, Gianluca"Luke" Paterniti on lead vocal, Diego"Blef"Dragoni on guitar, Fabrizio Costa on bass and Daniele Vacchini on drums. While they may be influenced by Southern Rock giants, they bring their own sound to the table. Smokey Fingers brings a fresh new edge to a genre of music that may not have been heard much outside "Classic Rock" radio. This is Southern Rock the way it should be played, the louder its played the better it sounds. It is un apologetic in how hard it will kick your butt and leave you wanting more.  An excellent surprise! - Highly Recommended

CD REVIEW: MADE IN CONCRETE by The Black Marbles
(RKC0001)

'Made In Concrete' the rocking debut from Swedish based rockers The Black Marbles serves up a heavy dose of rock and roll swagger that is guaranteed to rock and roll your soul for days. The Black Marbles embody everything that Rock And Roll stands for: loud guitars, thumping bass lines, kicking drums and swagger! A throwback sound that brings the blues/soul/rock style all together and ties it up in a nice bow.  If your into band's like Grand Funk Railroad, Free and The Faces you are going love this band. The Black Marbles are, Kaj Paxéus on vocals, Philip Karlsson on guitar, Krister Selander on bass and Tobbe Bövik on drums. This band plays what they feel and they play it very well. The album features twelve tracks all great not a weak track among the bunch. Personal favorites, "Night And Day", "Free Your Mind", "Good Loving" and a cover of the Free classic, "The Stealer". As for band chemistry the band is tight. Philip Karlsson' s guitar work is simply flawless. The rhythm section of Krister Selander and Tobbe Bövik is rock solid. Last but certainly not least is Kaj Paxéus' vocals. He simply reels you in, his vocal delivery may remind you of other great singers, but make no mistake, his voice sounds like nobody else.  Bottom line: 'Made In Concrete' is a strong debut outing. The music on this album is meant to be enjoyed through your surround sound, an awesome set of head phones or on a road trip. The Black Marbles are destined for greatness and if they can keep it together will definitely make their mark, big time. There's hope for Rock And Roll after all. - Highly Recommended
